HOW TO : CARE FOR JEWELRY

Nodory Jewelry is a Demi-Fine handmade jewelry brand committed to create classic, trendy and dainty jewelry that's perfect for everyday wear, without breaking the bank .

We'll go over how to clean your jewelry and give you some pointers on how to make it last longer. You can keep them gleaming for longer by taking a few simple steps. To keep your pieces in good condition, we recommend cleaning them once a month.

GOLD FILLED JEWELRY CARE

Although gold-filled jewelry requires little maintenance, dirt and dust will accumulate on the pieces over time. You can shower and even sleep with it without the gold rubbing or flaking off, as it would with gold plated jewelry. It's ideal for everyday use.

Cleaning Instructions:

  • Soak your piece in the solution for 5 minutes using mild liquid soap and lukewarm water.
  • Scrub your piece gently with a soft bristled toothbrush or your fingers. Make a point of concentrating on the areas with the most build-up.
  • Using a soft cloth, gently pat your piece dry. If necessary, rinse and repeat.

Things to avoid:

  • Do not use harsh chemicals directly on the pieces (e.g. hand sanitizer, lotion, perfume, sunscreen). If you're applying these to your body, wait until everything has been applied and absorbed by the skin before putting on your jewelry.
  • Pools and hot tubs should be avoided because the chlorine will damage the gold.
  • Swimming in the ocean should be avoided because the salt water can harm the gold.
  • When you are not wearing your gold filled jewelry, keep it in a sealed zip lock bag or jewelry case/ pouch.

Don't worry if you make these mistakes! Your items are durable. However, if you follow these guidelines, your pieces will last longer.

    GOLD VERMEIL JEWELRY CARE

Gold vermeil, like gold filled, is ideal for everyday wear. If you're wondering what the difference between the two is, read our blog post Types of Gold for more information. Caring for vermeil jewelry is very similar to caring for gold filled jewelry!

If you notice some tarnishing, use a polishing cloth to help remove the tarnishing. But be careful not to rub too much, as the cloth is essentially rubbing the gold off. If you are using the cloth to clean another brand's gold vermeil piece, be cautious because some companies may use less than 2.5 microns of gold.

    • Avoid washing your hands/showering with gold vermeil pieces if at all possible.

Don't worry if you make these mistakes! Your items are durable. However, if you follow these guidelines, your pieces will last longer.

    STERLING SILVER JEWELRY CARE

Sterling silver is a very shiny metal, but it can oxidize and lose its luster over time. Here are some pointers on how to keep your pieces gleaming and looking as good as new.

    Cleaning Instructions:

The most effective way to clean your sterling silver jewelry is with a polishing cloth. Rough cloths, paper towels, and tissues should not be used because they will scratch the silver.

    Soap and water method:

    • Soak your piece in the solution for 5 minutes, using mild liquid soap and lukewarm water.
    • Scrub your piece gently with a soft bristled toothbrush or your fingers. Make a point of concentrating on the areas with the most build-up.
    • Using a soft cloth, gently pat your piece dry. If necessary, rinse and repeat.

    Baking soda/water method:

If you're having trouble getting the shine with the method above, we recommend trying this method.

    • Make a paste with a small amount of baking soda and water.
    • Apply a pea-sized amount to your jewelry and gently scrub it (this can be done with a soft-bristled toothbrush).
    • After that, rinse with warm water.

    Things to avoid:

    • When getting ready, put on your jewelry last! Perfumes, lotions, and certain cosmetics can hasten tarnishing. Allow these products to absorb into your skin before putting on jewelry.
    • Don't use harsh chemicals on the pieces directly (e.g. hand sanitizer, lotion, perfume, sunscreen). If you're applying these to your body, wait until everything is dry before putting on your jewelry.
    • Avoid swimming pools and hot tubs because the chlorine will damage the gold.
    • Swimming in the ocean is not recommended because the salt water can damage the gold.
    • When you're not wearing your sterling silver jewelry, keep it in a sealed zip lock bag or jewelry case/pouch. If left out, it will tarnish due to oxidation with air.

Following these tips will allow you to extend the life of your favorite pieces and keep them looking beautiful for many years to come. Enjoy your pieces!

    XOXO,

    Nodory
